Executive Director (Part-Time, Contract)
Status: Contract (1099), Part-Time (~30 hours/month)
Reports To: Board of Directors
Location: Remote (Must be located in Southeastern U.S.) with travel
Compensation: $80-100/hour – commensurate with qualifications and experience
About the Southeast Biosolids Association (SEBA)
The Southeast Biosolids Association (SEBA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the environmentally sound, beneficial use and management of biosolids throughout the southeastern United States. SEBA brings together utilities, municipalities, regulators, researchers, consultants, and industry partners to promote education, advocacy, professional development, and the exchange of technical knowledge that supports sustainable biosolids management practices.
Position Summary
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief administrative and strategic leader of the Southeast Biosolids Association, responsible for implementing the Board's strategic vision and plan while managing the Association's day-to-day operations, membership growth, communications, financial administration, and industry engagement.
Membership growth, retention, and biosolids advocacy are the Association's highest organizational priorities and should guide all strategic planning, outreach, communications, and program development efforts.

Core Responsibilities
Membership Growth, Engagement & Outreach
- Develop and implement a comprehensive membership recruitment and retention strategy targeting utilities, municipalities, consultants, regulators, vendors, academic institutions, and other biosolids stakeholders, with a strategic emphasis on expanding utility and municipal membership throughout the Southeast.
- Retain and re-engage existing and lapsed members.
- Maintain and manage membership database, renewals, and records.
- Lead outreach campaigns, communications, and engagement initiatives.
- Build and leverage relationships with industry partners and stakeholders.
- Deliver member value through communications, events, and services.
Events, Conferences & Industry Representation
- Plan, coordinate, and support SEBA conferences, webinars, and events.
- Manage event/webinar logistics, including sponsors, exhibitors, and speakers.
- Represent SEBA at 2–6 regional/national industry events annually.
- Use events strategically for membership recruitment and engagement.
- Conduct in-person outreach with utilities, partners, and stakeholders.
Communications, Marketing & Public Relations
- Serve as the primary representative and spokesperson for SEBA.
- Manage website, social media, newsletters, and digital communications.
- Develop marketing materials, reports, and educational resources.
- Maintain relationships with members, media, industry organizations, and the public.
- Support advocacy, public policy, and regulatory awareness initiatives consistent with SEBA's mission and guidelines.
Organizational Management & Administration
- Provide administrative support to the Board and committees (meetings, agendas, minutes).
- Maintain organizational records, systems, and operational procedures.
- Manage internal communications and reporting.
- Oversee staff/contractors as applicable.
- Maintain central systems for communications, data, and information sharing.
Financial Management & Compliance
- Develop and manage the annual budget in coordination with the Board/Treasurer.
- Oversee financial transactions, recordkeeping, and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Support fundraising, sponsorship development, and grant opportunities.
- Monitor contracts and ensure deliverables are completed as required.
Strategic Partnerships & Program Development
- Build relationships with universities, research institutions, and partner organizations.
- Maintain and share industry knowledge and resources related to biosolids management.
- Support development of grants, research initiatives, and special projects.
- Identify opportunities to increase SEBA’s visibility and impact.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, public administration, marketing, environmental sciences or related field required.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of management experience in a nonprofit organization.
- Experience in environmental sectors (wastewater, biosolids, recycling, etc.) preferred.
- Preferred: Experience with legislative affairs, public policy, government relations, or related roles requiring knowledge of the legislative process and regulatory landscape.
- Experience working with membership-based organizations, associations, or professional societies is highly desirable.

- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
